Bay Harbour Market

What we love most about the Bay Harbour Market is that, unlike most markets that are only open on a Saturday, you can enjoy the buzz on a Friday evening and all day Sunday, too.

Located in an old factory on the waters edge of the Hout Bay harbour, the market is an eclectic mix of local fashion, art, crafts and food. The atmosphere is jovial and with live music it’s a great way to kick off the weekend or while away the day.

Trading times: Fridays 5pm to 9pm, Saturdays & Sundays 9:30am to 4pm (All trading areas are weather-proofed)

Must Have Monday: Dawson Leather Shoes

This week’s Must-Have item is a pair of Dawson leather shoes. Available in black and brown and boasting the classic lace-up style; these shoes are a wardrobe essential. And they’re comfortable, too.

A quick visit to Old Khaki, Canal Walk.

This week we popped into the Old Khaki store at Canal walk and spent some time with store manager, Claud Kruger.

Claud has been with Old Khaki for two and a half years and his all-time favourite Old Khaki items are his grey striped V-neck tee and his chino shorts.

Claud’s pick-of-the-day is the Old Khaki Tau tee, which features a vintage photo of Old Khaki Headquarters in Cape Town.

Two Door Cinema Club are coming to SA.

In just over two weeks time, Two Door Cinema Club will be performing in SA, and we can hardly wait! Two shows, one in Joburg and one in Cape Town, and that’s about all we know for now. The secrecy around the concerts isn’t for lack of organisation, in fact it’s the very opposite.

The concerts are the next feature of the 5 Gum experience and in order to keep in the loop about tickets and how you can secure one you need to keep an eye on their Facebook Page and Twitter account.

Street Style: Glamour Girls

This week’s street style selection features the Glamour Girls. This title doesn’t only refer to their incredible style; they in fact all work at Glamour Magazine. We caught them in town on their lunch break. How great do they look?

An Unrestricted Love Story…

This Valentine’s Day we’re celebrating a very special love story – one that began on the set of an Old Khaki photo shoot. But this is no typical tale of boy meets girl; this is a real life story of unrestricted love…

At first glance, neither thought the other was their type. There was no big ‘love-at-first-sight’ epiphany.  But as the day progressed they found that they actually had a number of things in common. The director on the shoot picked up on the spark between the two and got to work on photographing them together. The result? The start of a beautiful romance between local model, Mark, and New York-born, Laura.

It may have been the warm summer air, the magnificent location or that sense of feeling unrestricted. Whatever it was, Old Khaki had a little hand in making love happen!

Today the model couple is blissfully married and it was in Laura’s home city where they decided to tie the knot. Neither subscribed to a traditional wedding and they decided to do things in a slightly more unrestricted fashion. Dressed to the nines they headed to New York City Hall where Laura’s brother and a group of lively strangers watched as they became husband and wife. Their honeymoon was different too with the pair simply enjoying each other’s company, while house-sitting Mark’s mom’s home in the Winelands, recreating the garden, sipping wine while enjoying the South African summer.

The couple will be heading back to New York to start their lives together but will always have Cape Town close to their hearts.

Must Have Monday: Kanika Denims

This week’s must-have item is a pair of Kanika denims. These dark washed and flared-leg jeans are a great wardrobe staple that can be worn dressed up or down. For a chilled evening at friends wear them with a vest or tee and sandals or spruce them up, for painting the town red, with those cheeky heels and a pretty blouse.

The Relate Bracelet

Today is Feel Good Friday, just because, and we thought we’d share a little something with you that is making us feel good – the Relate Bracelet.

These beautiful bracelets are made by a group of men and women from disadvantaged backgrounds and are in aid of a local charity called Ikamva Labantu. You can find the bracelets at any Old Khaki for R30 each. When you buy a bracelet, a portion goes to this wonderful local charity and contributes toward their AIDS research, education and training. Now, doesn’t that make you feel good?
